  Manchester United have made the most “incredible” signing of the summer transfer window by bringing in Nemanja Matic from Chelsea, according to Andy Townsend.
The Red Devils completed a shock move to bring the Serbian midfielder to Old Trafford as Chelsea agreed to sell the 29-year-old to a direct rival.

  The transfer surprised many, because Matic was one of the key players in helping Chelsea to win the Premier League title for the second time in three seasons last term.

  Matic knows Mourinho well after the pair won the title together at Chelsea in the 2014-15 season.

  And Townsend believes that Manchester United’s deal to sign Matic from their direct rivals was probably the signing of the summer transfer window.

  Speaking on The Debate on Sky Sports on Wednesday night, Townsend said: “Nemanja Matic is just the most incredible signing of the window so far.

  “I think Jose will be happy with what he’s got. It’s great business for them.”

  Matic has slotted straight into the first team at Old Trafford and Manchester United have made a flying start to the new Premier League season.

  Mourinho’s men have won all three of their opening games against West Ham, Swansea and Leicester, scoring 10 goals without reply in the process.

  The Red Devils are flying high at the top of the Premier League table as they prepare to travel to Stoke City afte the international break.
