(MC ALLELUYA) ORGANIZER, DELTA STATE POLYTECHNIC, OGWASHI-UKU AND BEYOND EXCELLENCE AWARDS (DBE AWARDS) TAGGED “CELEBRATING ACADENIC EXCELLENCE AND DILIGENCE IN DUTIES” TODAY 28TH DAY OF JULY, 2017 AT DELTA SATE POLYTECHNIC, OGWASHI-UKU EVENT CENTERS.
PROTOCOLS
It is a big honour and privilege to welcome you all to this Epoch event; Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku and Beyond Excellence Award (DBE Award). The award is a veritable platform aimed at “Celebrating Academic Excellence and diligence in every aspect of our day to day life.
Education is often referred to as the key to key to success, but in the era of high unemployment ratio, when a larger number of youths now seek cheap alternatives, then the big challenge. our goal therefore is to use this platform to encourage students, academic and non-academic staff, the stakeholders, friends of the Polytechnic and Delta State in General to be focus, positive minded and hardworking in all areas of duties as well as create a consciousness for rewarding diligence. As it is said; hardworking and diligence pays.
This would help also to direct the minds of our stakeholders and friends of the institution positively by honouring notable and well deserving fathers, mothers and organizations in the state who have contributed positively to the growth, welfare and development of the Education in DSPG and beyond.
This award will also accommodate those who have contributed immensely Humanitarian service, exceptional philanthropic gestures, advance human is development and support to talents/idea development etc.
It worthy of note that DBE AWARD is in two phases which is ACADEMICS EXCELLENCE AND DILIGENCE IN DUTIES.
According to the Havard Education Gazette; Excellence is a quality of being outstanding; it is not a trait, hence it cannot be inherited.
There is no one way of achieving excellence academically; it is how you apply the principles governing it that determines the outcome.
Excellence comes with a price, only those who understand its worth can pay for it. http://www.yourdictionary.com succinctly defines diligence with applicable example: “Diligence is defined as determination and careful effort.
An example of diligence is a person who does a job efficiently and takes care of little details." There is no gain saying our society today finds it difficult to reward excellence. Be that as it may, the virtue of excellence and diligence cannot be over emphasized.
The DBE AWARDS in higher institutions is here to correct this societal anomaly, as we identify and celebrate deserving people with the right mind set.
The DBE awards is not just about plaque and certificates, there is also a financial package which we believe will spur others to be better at what they do.
More importantly, the award is given based on merit after a rigorous process of nomination and screening. .
These people share in common traits such as hard work, focus, diligence, selflessness in their area of duties as well as create the awareness and promoting educational competitiveness for the good of our institutions, the state and the country at large.
This Global Award Event will also make those who are relenting in their duties to sit-up and be objective in execution of their assignment.
I want to use this medium also to appreciate HIGH CHIEF MIKE NWAUKONI ( THE IYASE OF OGWASHI-UKU KIGDOM) I have always heard his good works and outstanding positive impact to his people of ogwashi-uku and beyond and I think if others can emulates him , Nigeria will be a better place.
Furthermore, it will be pertinent at this juncureg to say a very big thank you to the governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa on his numerous achievements particularly in the area of Roads and Job Creation programs through STEP, GEEP AND YAGEP not minding the downturn in the economy.
The organizers of DBE AWARDS will today present a prestigious award of Excellence in Governance to the governor to say thank you.
On the list also is the Commissioner for Higher Education Sir Jude Sinebe for his proactive and responsive leadership style, which has engendered massive development in the state's higher institutions.
I also want to use this opportunity to say a big thank you to the Rector of Delta State Polytechnic Ogwashi Uku, Prof. Stella C. Chiemeke and the Management for buying into DBE AWARDS Concept and the immense support in making the project successful.
On this note, it is important to put on record that continuation of DSPG and beyond Excellence award in various higher institution and state level, shall achieve change such as
- ACADEMIC COMPETITIVENESS AMONG STUDENTS IN VARIOUS INSTITUTIONS
- DILIGENCE IN. DUTIES AMONG ACADEMIC AND NON-ACADEMIC STAFF.
- THOSE WITH POSITIVE MINDSET WILL HAVE MORE ZEAL TO DO MORE
- IT WILL CHALLENGE OTHERS TO BE POSITIVE MINDED AND IMPACT THE SOCIETY
- IT WILL MAKE OUR YOUTHS STAY POSITIVE IN THEIR LINE OF DUTIES.
However, this award also met some set backs which I feel that when itemized could help us do better in the near future Such as:
Finance: we need financial support from government, corporate organizations; personalities etc; this am sure will enhance our performance and maintain our integrity.
Mobility: Having no official vehicle makes it really difficult for us to reach the right place at the right time.
Office: We don’t have a office which would have been very helpful to facilitate our day to day activities.
Media: The media partner’s which would have been so important to make this platform so exciting to capture the mindset of the general public.
REQUEST
We the DBE AWARD crew wishes to call on the general public for sponsorship and partnership, and we promise integrity in order to promote Academic Excellence and diligence in all area of works in Nigeria and beyond.
